If you're heading to Cambodia, it's important to know that the new Techo International Airport (KTI) has replaced the old Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) as of September 9, 2025. In this guide, Realestate.com.kh will help you get to and from the new airport, which is located about 20 kilometers south of Phnom Penh in Kandal Province.

The trip to the city center usually takes around 50 minutes without traffic. Below are the most convenient ways to travel between the airport and these popular spots, along with what you can expect to pay.

The Airport Express Bus

The Phnom Penh City Bus Company launched an express bus service on September 9, 2025, that connects the city center with the new airport. It's a great option for budget-friendly travelers.

  • Fare: The ticket is only 1,500 Riels (about $0.37) one way, making it one of the most affordable airport transfers you'll find.
  • Hours: Buses run daily from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM.
  • Travel Time: Keep in mind that the journey can take up to two hours due to city traffic and multiple stops. This option is best if you are not in a rush.

The bus stops are located at key points in the city. You can check out the routes listed in the poster below:

Ride Services or Ride Apps

For a more convenient and flexible option, ride-hailing apps are the way to go. Grab, Move, PassApp, and WowNow are the most popular choices in Phnom Penh. You can choose between a tuk-tuk or a car, and even better, an EV car (which is very popular for users these days).

  • Tuk-tuk: This is the cheapest and best option if you're traveling alone or as a pair with minimal luggage.
  • Car: If you're traveling with more than two people or have a lot of luggage, a car is a better choice.

Prices may vary depending on the time of day, with higher fares expected during rush hours (8-9 AM, 11 AM-12 PM, and 5-6 PM). Many apps also offer new user discounts or promo codes, so be sure to check their social media pages or the coupon section before you book.

Pre-Booked Taxis and Hotel Transfers

If you prefer a smooth arrival experience, you can arrange a pre-booked taxi or transfer through your hotel. While more expensive than ride services, it provides a guaranteed ride and is often ideal for larger groups, expats coming for the first time, or late-night arrivals.

Estimated Fares from the Airport to the Riverside Area:

  • Standard Sedan/Car: The price for a standard car typically ranges from $17 to $35 USD. Some promotions offer a flat rate of $17 for transfers between KTI and the city center. Other companies may have rates of $25 or $30.
  • Larger Vehicles (Minivan, SUV): If you need a larger vehicle for more people or luggage, the price will be higher. A minivan or SUV can cost between $30 and $40 USD, with some VIP options costing as much as $85.
  • On-Demand Services: Ride-hailing apps like Grab are also available, and their prices can fluctuate based on demand. A Grab ride to downtown Phnom Penh is estimated to be around 85,000 KHR, which is approximately $20.75 USD.

Keep in mind that these are estimates. The final price can depend on:

  • The company you book with: Different companies have different pricing structures.
  • The time of day: Some services may charge more for late-night transfers.
  • The type of vehicle: Larger or more luxurious vehicles will cost more.
  • Any promotions or discounts: Some companies offer special rates for airport transfers.

On-Site Car Rental

According to the official Techo International Airport website, car rental counters are available in the arrival hall. While specific pricing details aren't widely available yet, this is a good option if you plan to drive yourself and explore beyond the city center.

When it comes to getting to and from the new Techo International Airport, you have several reliable options to choose from. Your decision will likely depend on your budget, how much time you have, and the amount of luggage you're carrying.

This is why Living Closer Makes All the Difference!

Traveling to Techo International Airport can take quite some time, depending on where you live in Phnom Penh. However, residents of R&F City enjoy one of the most convenient locations for airport access. Situated along National Road 2, just a short drive from the city’s southern gateway, R&F City offers a smooth and direct route to the airport, often cutting the travel time by nearly half compared to other central districts.

This modern mixed-use community combines affordable condominiums, retail spaces, and a variety of facilities suitable for those looking for not just a condo but a space to enjoy communal activities as well, making it not only a comfortable home but also a highly strategic choice for frequent travelers and professionals who value time and convenience.
