Cambodia's Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway Construction to Start in June 2023

Construction for Cambodia's Second Expressway, the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, is set to commence on June 7th of this year.

The Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway is expected to be 138 kilometres in length and is projected to be completed by the end of 2026 or early 2027. The estimated cost for the construction of this highway is approximately $1.638 billion.

Preliminary studies reveal that the starting point of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway will be the 3rd ring road of Phnom Penh City, and it will pass through Kampong Speu Province, Kampong Chhnang Province, and Kampong Thom Province, ultimately reaching Bavet City near the Cambodia-Vietnam border.

The Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway is anticipated to boost trade and commerce, improve transportation efficiency, and enhance connectivity between various regions of Cambodia.

Cambodia's first expressway, the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, was opened to traffic on October 1st, 2022.

According to a representative of the expressway operator CRBC, 2.53 million vehicles have been travelling on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway for 200 days since it opened to the public in October last year.
